Inguinal / Incisional hernia

Abdominal hernia, which is called “abdominal hernia”, is one of the most common reasons for weight loss surgery. Abdominal hernia, also known as hernia, occurs when tissue or part of the intestine passes through the abdominal wall. This passage causes a bulge or swelling in the abdomen or groin. Most hernias are easily treatable. But sometimes they can cause serious complications.

Abdominal hernia and weight loss surgery

What is an abdominal hernia?

The abdominal wall consists of layers of strong muscles and tendons that stretch from the ribs to the groin. If there is a weakness in a part of this wall, the contents inside it can exert pressure and cause an abdominal hernia by coming out of the weak part or slightly tearing the abdominal tissue from the inside. In this situation, a person notices a bulge on his stomach or groin. This bulge may increase when a person coughs, sits, exercises, or does any other activity that puts pressure on the abdomen. Sometimes the patient may not notice any symptoms.

It is possible that surgery will be needed to treat an abdominal hernia, but this depends on the type of hernia and the complications it causes. However, if the protruding area suddenly becomes painful, especially if the person cannot push it back into the abdomen with low pressure, it is necessary to see a doctor immediately; Because in this situation, the contents of the hernia may be stuck inside the hole and surgery is needed immediately.
